RE: Upcoming CARB Regulation

Dear Valued Customer,

As you are well-aware, the RVIA Board of Directors met in 2007 and addressed all related issues surrounding formaldehyde emissions and materials used in the manufacture of recreational vehicles.  A resolution was approved requiring that all RVIA manufacturer members meet or exceed the HUD formaldehyde emission controls standards for wood products by December 31, 2007.

These new requirements have been added to RVIA's existing requirements and meeting requirements is now a condition of membership.

Genesis Products has always been a fully-committed partner with you in all aspects of our products.  As your partner, we want to continue working closely with you to maintain compliance to these standards.  The RVIA has also adopted the CARB regulation on March 7th 2008 and these regulations are very different from HUD requirements.

Genesis has been working with our supply chain for this latest upcoming change, ensuring we help you meet these new standards.  CARB is another challenge to the industry, and we are prepared to explain just how these regulations apply to the specific products we supply to you.  Genesis Products is in the process of moving to 100% CARB compliant material, and we want to make sure your questions are answered.  To that end, we have prepared a brief presentation on CARB and its effects on the industry.  If you would like to meet with us to review these upcoming changes, please contact your Salesperson to schedule a meeting.  We would also be happy to mail you a copy of the presentation if you wish.

Current Regulatory Items:

• HUD CFR 24 3280.308 Regulations for formaldehyde apply only to wood products (plywood and particle board) that are bonded with a resin containing formaldehyde or surface coated with a substance containing formaldehyde- full panels are required for testing.  All products manufactured from these materials also must meet these emissions specifications.

• HUD CFR 24 3280.308 does not specify MDF (medium density fiber board) for compliance nor requires testing.  Formaldehyde emissions are regulated by the Composite Panel Association using the levels specified by ANSI 208.2 at < .3 PPM.

We can also provide copies of our vendor’s materials certification forms supporting these standards.  When testing is required by regulation, we’ll supply independent 3rd party test data verifying that our manufactured products meet these specified requirements.
